Our weekly mens “Style Guide” for the latest trends!
Each week we will be styling our THRDS presenter Mr. Jay London in four unique ways, to showcase variations of how a key item of the season can be worn. This feature is our humble way of providing our readers with different style suggestions. We hope to guide and assist you with making good fashion choices, and show how to wear your favourite pieces.
The Fall/Winter 2014 Collection for CREEP by Hiroshi Awai featured a collaboration with that of Liberty London. The collection combines the functionality of North American workwear with a stylish Japanese aesthetic, to make some truly unique and innovative looks. Combining these with Liberty floral prints, results in a striking partnership, such is the Rocky Mountain Down Vest, which we have utilised in this weeks HowToStyle a Gilet. We’ve chosen the Tan, however it is also available in Cerulean and Orange shade, made from 100% goose down, making it the perfect winter layer.
Sartorial – When your statement piece is an outerwear, the key is to choose a complementing look for underneath. We’ve matched the gilet with tweed brown suit pants from Topman, kept it simple in the upper body with a white shirt and tie from Topman, then added brown brogues from River Island to complete the outfit. Our overall look is one combining brown tones to balance that of the tan tones in the gilet.
Trendy – As this gilet is quite an eye catcher with not only its rich colour, but its floral liberty panels, we decided that again, it works perfectly as a focal point of the whole outfit. We’ve noticed that even though the sun is shining, there is still a brisk chill in the air. So with this combination, we are layering up, and so we’ve started with our staple of a white Topman shirt, and then added a D.I.E denim shirt. We’ve kept the bottom half of the look simple but on point, with pants from Elvine and some of our favourite boots from Redwing.
Casual – Once more we are using the technique of layering, beginning with a plain t-shirt from Native Youth, then placing a shirt from Penfield, which is padded weave to add extra warmth, we’ve then placed the gilet. In wanting to keep colours that match, we’ve added a rich navy blue Penguin jean and a warm red sneaker from Clae, and to top it all off we’ve completed the look with the beanie from Dr Martens to keep your ears warm.
Hipster – Wearing a gilet is a general concept of providing extra warmth. So realistically, the process of adding it to an outfit, shouldn’t take the thought process in which we have used above. So with our look in this context, we’ve kept it very casual. We’ve got a plain black hoodie and cap from DOPE, which we’ve added jeans from Anerkjendt to, and then in completing the look we’ve got our go to shoe from the Palladium.
