How are you today Taliwhoah?
Hey! I’m a little tired today, but I’m good, thank you for asking.
Did you enjoy shooting with Cali today?
I absolutely did. I had a lot of fun vibing with everyone.
Okay so firstly what does your name mean and where did it come from?
Well in high school, I went for dance try outs and a few people didn’t know I could dance, let alone talk and when they saw what I could do one of the boys said “Tali made me say whoah” and then I kinda thought hmmm Taliwhoah, I like that haha and the rest is history.
I know there’s a little bit of time between “Funk”, “Alright” and “Details” but there’s quite a different vibe given off of each song, why do you think that is?
I think I was in very different spaces in my life when I made these tracks and the production and lyrics really reflect that. Those songs were the soundtrack for some very pivotal moments in my life.
Do you play any instruments or have any hidden talents?
I’m self taught on the piano and I’m actually taking up guitar now, which I’m really excited but sad about cause bye bye long nails lol. I absolutely love film and directing and I’ve co-directed all of my videos I’ve ever put out. I can do some pretty amazing accents also haha.
How has your music evolved personally since you began putting your music out?
I’ve been a little less guarded with my lyrical content. I’m no longer playing it safe and I’m using music as a way of therapy for myself. There’s a lot I need to heal from and as you would speak to a therapist, I’m speaking to the music more.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
I think the biggest challenge so far has been standing up for myself and my worth. Sometimes it gets confusing on who’s here to help or hurt you and I’ve struggled with self confidence for a while, however the more I grow as a creative and as a woman, I’m embracing discernment and enlightenment a lot more.
What is a typical day like for Taliwhoah?
Hmmm, there isn’t really a typical day for me. My life is probably a lot more normal than most would imagine. I like to spend time with my gran to start my day and then I find my way to a studio for the rest of the day/night.
What’s the story behind details?
I wrote details after getting a tattoo one time and I wrote it using the experience of getting a tattoo as an analogy on life and the lessons it teaches us. It’s always the minor details in tattooing along with shading that bring out the beauty in a tattoo, and I feel that it’s the same in life really.
What has been your favourite performance experience?
I recently opened up for Sinead Harnett at heaven and it was such an amazing experience. It was the biggest crowd I’ve performed for yet and they were some warm and responsive!
When buying new clothes or putting an outfit on do you look for comfort or could you sacrifice that for the perfect style?
I’m all the way about comfort! I think it’s important to be comfy in what you wear cause there’s nothing worse than doing the most on top of being uncomfortable. I’m also a tomboy at heart so even when I dress up I think about me feeling good/comfy in what I’m wearing before anything else.
Where is your favourite place to shop?
My fav place at the moment is Palm Vintage. They’re giving me life with all their vintage designer pieces. For all my basics though I pretty much shop anywhere, primark, forever, missguided etc.
Who are some of your fashion influences?
I would definitely say Naomi Campbell, Ashley Banks aka Tatianna Ali in fresh prince.
What are some of your favourite brands right now?
Im not being funny but I’ve literally only been shopping vintage at Palm Vault it’s a little ridiculous actually lol.
What’s the next step for you musically?
Well I’m getting ready to release volume 2 of my working on more music for my album. It’s been a great 2 years to work and grow so I’m excited about making and producing more music.
What can we look forward to in the next few weeks?
I’ve just been away in Barcelona for my birthday working on a visual for my single sweetest escape and I’m really excited for you guys to see it.
